What’s in a number? Well, a lot, actually, but every once in awhile when it comes to the box office, ticket sale figures aren’t always a full indicator of audience interest. There are quite a few movies that slipped under the radar on release, but became massively popular cult phenomenons with fans months—maybe even years—later. Sometimes critical acclaim is to thank for that post hoc popularity, while others fall into the “so bad they’re good” category. But the one thing they all have in common is that they made very little money at the box office but still managed to earn a massive fanbase after the fact.
